Simulation Technology – virtual planning and optimization

Assure investments – maximize efficiency – reduce lead times

Simulation technology permits to visualize machines, plants or entire production areas in the form of dynamic models. As a result their behavior with a given manufacturing program can be predicted with high accuracy.

Why Simulation Technology?
Complex manufacturing systems cannot at all or only very inaccurately be analyzed by static calculating methods. This inaccuracy however causes considerable investment risks or an expensive oversize of system components.
Experiments at existing manufacturing systems are inefficient, dangerous, time-consuming and do not allow a systematic presentation.
Main benefits of the Simulation Technology
  • Reliable information on productivity, lead times, capacity utilization ...
  • Analysis and comparison of a few alternative approaches
  • Fast and reliable verification of optimization approaches
  • Optimization and validation of the investment in the planning phase
  • Productivity enhancement and lead time reduction with existing manufacturing systems
  • Transparent presentation of the overall system and its influencing factors
  • Observation of the system behavior over longer time periods in fast motion

PfeilSimulation Technology from the HOMAG Group

The HOMAG Group has developed a simulation module kit designed to allow high-speed modeling of even the most complex production systems at manageable cost. The simulation models can be loaded with real production data and provide reliable estimates concerning the productivity and functional capacity of a production system.

Simulation Technology in the planning phase   Planning optimization and decision

The simulation model permits the analysis of a manufacturing system in its planning phase under realistic conditions. The benefit:

  • reliable information on productivity, lead times, buffer utilization and workload of bottleneck areas
  • shorter implementation
The manufacturing systems may be diversified and optimized through simulation experiments. For example: the buffer sizes can be changed and the subsequent resulting impact on the entire system can then be checked. The benefit:
  • target parameters are attained – without the need of an expensive oversize of system components
  • the different simulation models are ideal to verify planning phases und they support actively the decision process

Simulation Technology in the operating phase  Further application areas

The benefit of simulation models in the operation phase of a manufacturing system:

  • reliable planning data for costing and production engineering
  • minimization of lead times and increase of productivity by evaluation of the optimum manufacturing flow
  • Product design:
simulation models are used to analyze the expected impact on manufacturing. Based on the results, products and manufacturing processes can be optimized
  • interactive training of  machine operators and maintenance staff
